The Birth of the Beloved

When Abdellah ibn Abdel-Motaleb married Amena bent Waheb, she gave birth to the prophet [PPBUH]. This was in the year of the Elephant (it was called this way because of what Allah did to the army of elephants which came to destroy al-Kacba with Abraha -king of Yamen at that time- when He defeated them by little birds throwing little stones from hell). It was a glorious birth. Allah has sent this Prophet [PPBUH] as a gift of mercy to cover all people of all worlds to bring them out of darkness into light. Sheikh Fakhraddin says:

[The birth of the light and the happiness was revealed

eliminator of grief we hope to take him as patron]

The night of birth

Kacb Alahbar [AAH] narrated on the birth of prophet Mohammad [PPBUH] that Ibn cAbbas said:

When Amena had her pregnancy, and the months went by with no pain or agony.

Amena said: "After six month of my pregnancy, someone came to me in my dream saying to me: You Amena, you are expecting the best of all worlds. When you deliver him, call him Mohammad, and keep this as a secret".

She said: "When labor started, no one -male or female- knew about me, as I was alone at home and Abdel-Motaleb was circumambulating Kacbah. I heard a great loud voice of a fall impact, which scared me. Then I saw the wing of a white bird that wiped my heart, then all my fears and pains were gone. Then, I saw a white drink which I thought was milk. I was thirsty, so I drank it and there came a bright light out of me. Then, I saw women as tall as palm trees. They seemed to be from Abd-Manaf's daughters. They were staring at me. While I was wondering how they knew about me, they told me that they were Asia (the wife of Mosa's pharaoh). Mariam (the daughter of cUmran; mother of Jesus), and fair maidens with wide beautiful eyes. The more I got into labor, the louder and more horrifying the voice of the fall impact became, and I heard it every hour. While I was in this state, I saw a precious white silk stretching between sky and earth, and I heard someone saying hide him from the eyes of the people".

She said: "I saw men standing in the air holding silver jars. Then, I saw birds that came from nowhere and covered my room. Its beak was from emerald and its wings were from ruby. Allah cleared my vision and I saw the East and the West of the earth. I saw three raised flags: one in the East, one in the West, and one at the top of Kacbah.

Then, I got more into labor, it was heavy, my sweat was like pearls, and it smelt better than musk. It was as if I was holding the corners of the heavens, when I gave birth to Mohamed [PPBUH]".

The place of birth

Amena said: "When he came out of my womb, I turned to look at him and found him kneeling, raising his finger as a suppliant supplicant. I saw a white cloud that came from heaven approaching him and covering him from me. Then, I heard someone saying: travel with Mohamed east and west of the earth and take him to all seas, so that they may know his name, character, and picture. Let them know that he is called al-Mahi (the Remover), he will remove all disbelief in his time. The cloud disappeared quickly, and I saw him dressed in a bright white wool whiter than milk, and under him was a green silk. He was holding three keys of white damp pearls. I heard someone saying: Mohamed [PPBUH] is holding the keys to victory, the keys to the wind and the keys to the prophecy. Another cloud approached him. It was greater than the first one with lights emitting out of it and voices of neighs of horses, flapping of wings and human talk. Mohammad [PPBUH] was again covered from me. I heard someone saying: 'travel with Mohammad [PPBUH] all over the world and expose him to every spiritual in jinn, men, angels, birds and beasts. Soak him in the morals of prophets.' After that, the cloud disappeared, and I found him holding a well-folded piece of green silk with water coming out of it. I heard someone saying: 'What a Glory! Mohammad [PPBUH] is holding the entire world. No earth creature was left out of his hold.' I looked at Him and here he was brighter than the complete moon and smelt better than the musk. I saw three persons whose faces were shining like the Sun. The first was holding a silver jar, the second was holding a bucket of emerald, and the third was holding a white silk out of which he brought a dazzlingly bright ring seal. He washed this seal in the jar seven times and stamped Mohammad [PPBUH] with this seal between his shoulders. He then wrapped Mohammad [PPBUH] in the silk, carried him inbetween his wings for an hour and then gave him back to me".

Ibn Abbas said that this was Radwan - the guardian of paradise - who said: 'rejoice, O Mohammad [PPBUH]. I gave you the knowledge of all the prophets. You are the most knowledgeable and the most courageous of them all. You have all the keys of victory.'

Amena said: "when he was born, a light came out with him which brightened the East and the West for him. I was scared, when a man came and carried him away from me. While I was astonished, he gave him back to me glowing, and said: 'Take him. They traveled with him to East and West. They showed him to all prophets and to his father; Adam who took him in his arms and said: Rejoice, my beloved! You are the master of the firsts and the hereafter. Whoever believes in you and do what you say; will be in your group under your flag in the Day of Judgment".

Prophet Mohammad [PPBUH] was born in the Year of the Elephant, fifty days after the incident. It was Monday, the 12th of the Rabica al-'Awal (20th of April), immediately after dawn. It was in Macca, in a place known today as (the market of night). It was in a house first owned by Aqil ibn Abi Taleb, and then by Mohammad ibn Yousif and now replaced by a public library.
